Staying overnight in Sendai? Why not get your next day of travel off to a healthy start with a fresh breakfast from the markets surrounded by beautiful forest on Mt. Aobayama!
Your first stop will be to Sendai’s ‘Asaichi’ (morning market), also known as Sendai’s ‘kitchen’ where restaurant owners and local residents alike source their fresh produce every day. Everything from the morning’s catch to fresh fruit, vegetables, rice-balls, bread, coffee, mochi, croquettes…you name it! Pick up some rice-balls and your favourite side dishes to create your own ‘obento’ lunchbox!
Even though the market is in the middle of Sendai City, just a short 10 min subway ride will take you out into the green oasis of Mt. Aobayama. Trek along one of the nature trails with your guide before stopping at a scenic point to enjoy the fresh air and your fresh breakfast!
Meet your guide in front of the stained glass windows on the 2F of Sendai Station.
Head to ‘Sendai’s Kitchen’, the Asaichi morning market. Although located in the centre of the city, at this market you will find all of the freshest local produce from the surrounding coast and countryside.
Pick-up some freshly made onigiri rice-balls and select your favourite side-dishes to go with them! This will be your ‘Obento’ lunchbox to be enjoyed a little later.
Jump aboard the Tozai subway at Sendai Station (just by the entrance to the market) and head to Mt. Aobayama, just a quick 10 min ride away!
After walking for around 10 mins to the start of the nature trail, enjoy a light trek through the lush forest!
Depending on the time of your visit you might enjoy scenes vibrant Autumn colours, fresh spring green or even frozen winter landscapes!
Away from the noise of the city, tune in to nature’s soundtrack as you keep an eye out for the local bird and wildlife.
Take a break at one of the many scenic points along the way to enjoy your fresh market breakfast and catch a breath of fresh air or two.
After breakfast, continue along the walking trail and back to Aobayama Station.
