Just a stones throw from Sendai City lies the beautiful Matushima Bay area, boasting some of Japan’s most important cultural properties and gastronomic highlights!
This privately chartered tour will take you on a hassle-free journey to explore all that the coast has to offer.
Begin in Shiogama City – an area less known by international travelers but famous throughout Japan as one of the nations seafood capitals. Not only does Shiogama port boast the biggest catch of fresh tuna in Japan, the town is also home to the most sushi restaurants per capita – foodies will be in heaven! You will first see the seafood fresh off the boat at Nakaoroshi fish market, with the chance to sample your favourites as part of a make-it-yourself seafood bowl attraction on offer. Next you’ll head into town to explore some of the city’s cultural highlights, including the head Shinto Shrine in Tohoku, Shiogama-jinja, and Okama Shrine. Before sitting down to a lunch of fresh sushi, drop by local sake brewery ‘Urakasumi’ to taste some of their seasonal drops.
Once you’ve filled your belly, roll back into the car and on to neighbouring Matsushima Bay, well known for being one of Japan’s top scenic views. Here you’ll have a chance to stretch your legs and take in the history of the area with visits to Godaido Temple and Entsuin Temple before taking in the sprawling bay views from Kanrantei tea house.
It is common for visitors to Sendai to include a visit to Matsushima Bay during their stay. By choosing to explore by private taxi you can enjoy the freedom and flexibility of not worrying about train connections, as well as easy access to lesser known areas for a truly authentic local experience of Miyagi’s beautiful coastline.
Your private transport will be waiting to pick you up from JR Sendai Station West Exit Taxi Pool.
