Escape to the picturesque countryside of Naruko (Miyagi Prefecture) and spend the day reconnecting with nature in Kawatabi Onsen; a small hot spring town with a history of over 1000 years, known for its diverse natural beauty.

This tour package will allow visitors to completely immerse themselves into the nature and unique local lifestyle of Naruko. Meet with local conservation group ‘NPO Shinrin’ who are making efforts to restore declining forest areas, protect the local ecosystems and preserve the traditions of the area.  Learn about their activities as you explore the beautiful ‘Ecola Forest’ and take part in various local experiences designed to help visitors appreciate not only the hot-spring bathing culture of Naruko, but the blessings of the local environment and importance of protecting it.

First, visit newly renovated farm-to-table restaurant ‘Rishu’ and enjoy a local lunch served in traditional lacquered table-ware. After fueling up on fresh veggies, expend your energy exploring the beautiful Ecola Forest area with pruning experience!  The afternoon program will be spent embracing your inner artist with some traditional local woodcraft, such as making your own pair of lacquered chopsticks and hand-painting a mini ‘Kokeshi’ doll (both of which you can take home with you as memento of your experience!). Of course, those who wish to will also have time at the end of the program for a relaxing soak in the mineral-rich waters of the local hot-spring baths!*

*Optional visit to hot-spring: 300 JPY for adults, 100 JPY for children, 200 yen for small towel..
