The waters off the coast of Miyagi Prefecture are some of the most popular for big-game fishing in all of Japan, with many avid fishermen traveling from around the country to participate in sports-fishing tournaments and events. Depending on the season and conditions, big-game fish like Swordfish, Yellow-fun Tuna and even Black Marlin are frequently caught by locals and visitors alike. Including catch-and-release, over 175 Swordfish and Black Marlin were caught in 2019 alone.
At local boathouse ‘Kuroshio’ Kitahama Marine Base, you can jump aboard a yacht with some regulars or opt to hire a yacht and skipper for private use.
Spend a day on the open water battling with some big-game beauties as you take in views of Matsushima Bay and the majestic Mt. Kinkasan and Oshika Peninsula in the distance.
Opt to catch and release or bring your game back to shore to enjoy for dinner!

Meet at Kuroshio Kitahama Marine Base in Shiogama City.
The local team and your English speaking guide will provide a safety briefing and assist in setting up the required equipment.

Enjoy incredible up-close views of the islands of Matsushima, as well as Mt. Kinkasan and Oshika Peninsula in the distance.
The big-game fishing area is typically a 2.5 hour ride out to sea from the shelter of Matsushima Bay.
