One of the most exciting events of the year in northern Japan is the incredibly ‘Nebuta’ lantern float festival, when the streets of the town are taken over by a parade of giant, colourful lantern floats and crowds of lively dancers jumping and chanting to the sound of taiko drumming and traditional festival music. It is an experience not to be missed, but unfortunately can only be seen in the first week of August each year.
However! If you find yourself in Aomori City on any other day of the year, there is still a way to experience the exciting atmosphere of the festival. Be guided to a local restaurant where you will sit down to a lavish local dinner accompanied by local sake and a huge side of live entertainment! Be treated to performances of Aomori folksong, shamisen and festival music. If you’re brave enough, join in with the ‘Haneto’ dancers to really embrace the festival vibe.
Spend a lively evening eating, drinking and dancing like a true Aomori local!
Your guide will meet you at your hotel. (Move to restaurant by taxi/walk)
