Japanese cuisine has been recognised as an UNESCO World Heritage Intangible Cultural Asset, including Ichinoseki City’s local food culture of ‘mochi’ (rice-cake). This fun experience program allows you to enjoy a taste (literally) of this ancient food culture! At ‘Hiraizumi Club’, a 150 year old farmhouse, learn more about the local mochi cuisine from a ‘Mochi Meister’, before trying your hand at pounding some with a mini-mochi-making pestle and hammer. Once it’s ready, enjoy comparing different toppings – from traditional Japanese flavours to some more familiar to the palette of international guests! For a different texture altogether, you’ll also try frying some dried mochi and watching as it swells and grows into chewy deliciousness over the grill. Enjoy with a few extra side dishes of local cuisine for a fun, interactive and tasty breakfast!
