Meet your guide at the ‘Akiu Sato centre’. (Alighting point for buses from Sendai City centre, or a short walk from hot spring hotels in Akiu area)
Work up your appetite before lunch with a light walk through the local nature.
Take-in views of the picturesque ‘Rairai-kyo’ gorge, particularly beautiful and #instagrammable during Autumn (mid-late October).
Walk onwards to Akiu Winery!
After arriving at the winery, take a walk through the vineyards, listening to the story behind the beginning of the winery and plans for its future.
Enjoy a tasting session from the selection of local wines available, including varieties limited to the on-site shop.
Once you’ve chosen your favourite drop, grab a glass and head outside to the vineyards where your picnic lunch will be waiting!
Your ‘Obento’ style lunchbox will be made from locally sourced vegetables and ingredients by the incredibly talented chefs of ‘Akiu-sha’, a local farm-to-table restaurant.
(The contents of the lunch box will vary to include the vegetables/ingredients in season. Vegetarian and vegan options are also available!)
To limit your environmental impact and support the local handicraft industry, you will enjoy your lunch-box using a pair of hand-crafted wooden chopsticks made with local wood like cherry tree and persimmon tree (pictured). Take them with you to use during the rest of your Japan journey!
Sit back and relax in the sun, fresh air and countryside surroundings!
With a satisfied stomach, stumble back to the Akiu Sato Centre where the tour will end.
