Highlights

Feeling hungry?  Shiogama is home to the most sushi restaurants in Japan, as well as many historic sweet shops, teahouses, and Miyagi sake breweries! On this tour, you will start your day at Shiogama’s wholesale fish market (nakaoroshi market) with its rows of fishmongers and coffee at a newly built cafe popular with young people.  On the food tour, enjoy local food from Doraemon’s favorite dorayaki to sake tasting and miso-flavored gelato! Then we will take a sightseeing boat to Matsushima, where we will have a seafood bowl for lunch, then stroll around the tourist spots, and finally, have a matcha tea time at Kanran-tei, which has a very nice view. It will be an unforgettable trip.

Meet at the stained glass window on the 2nd floor, west side exit of Sendai Station.

Then, take a train!  From Sendai Station → JR Senseki Line Departure from Sendai Station (8:09) — Arrival at Higashi Shiogama Station (8:41)   

After arriving at the station, we will take a taxi about 10 minutes and head to the Shiogama tour!

Grab a cup of coffee and take a tour of the historic Shiogama fish market. 

After enjoying it leisurely for about half an hour, let’s head to our next destination!

Taxi into the Shiogama town area for a foodie walking tour.

Mini-gelato from ‘Ota-ya’ Miso and Soy Sauce specialty store (since 1845). Yep, that’s right! Choose from Shiogama sea-salt or miso flavoured gelato for a salty-sweet surprise!

Taste cookies made with local ingredients at a local patisserie that has been in business for nearly 50 years!

Doraemon’s favourite sweets ‘Dorayaki’ (sweet pancake filled with red-bean cream) at Shiogama’s famous ‘Kasho Eitaro’ store, established over 100 years ago (1909).

Walk through local fishmonger, visit ‘Kumakyu’ local liquour store for some more sake tasting. 

Around 11:30, let’s get a bit tipsy, take a taxi, and board the boat!

Upon arriving at Marine Gate Shiogama, the boat terminal, please enjoy the approximately one-hour boat cruise to Matsushima.

Let’s board the boat departing from Shiogama Marine Gate at 12:00 and arriving at Matsushima Port around 12:50.

Stroll along Matsushima, and enjoy seafood rice bowl lunch!

Visit historical spots in Matsushima〜
During our Matsushima Town Walk, we will take in some of the area’s top attractions on foot, including the venerable Zuiganji Temple, the historic Entsu-in temple, and the striking Godaidou hall.

We will visit the historic Kanrantei, an important cultural property of Japan, where you can savor the unique experience of traditional matcha green tea and delicate Japanese sweets within this renowned tea house!

Return to Matsushima-Kaigan Station (JR Senseki Line), then take this train!  Matsushima-Kaigan Departure: 15:10 → Sendai Station Arrival: 15:48
