Aomori may be best known for its summer Nebuta Festival — one of Japan’s most dramatic and beloved celebrations — but there’s far more to this northern city than fireworks and floats.
This four-hour private tour takes you straight to the heart of it: the culture, the art, and the food that make Aomori unlike anywhere else in Japan. Your guide will meet you at Aomori Station and lead you first to A-Factory, a sleek riverside complex built around the city’s famous apple cider heritage.
Browse at your own pace before heading to the Nebuta House Warasse, where you’ll come face-to-face with the enormous, glowing floats that take months to build and minutes to mesmerise. From there, a short taxi ride brings you to the Aomori Museum of Art — a striking underground building whose permanent collection includes Yoshitomo Nara’s iconic giant dog, displayed in a purpose-built pit.
The tour ends on a delicious note at Aomori Gyosai Center (Furukawa Market), where you’ll try the local specialty: Nokke-don. Pick up a card, choose your toppings fresh from the market stalls, and assemble your own bowl of seafood over rice. It’s chaotic, fun, and utterly Aomori.
