It’s no surprise that the town is home to a number of veteran fishermen, but none quite as talented and charismatic as the ‘Ika-oji’, or ‘Squid Prince’! Find out more about how he has earned this nick-name as the ‘Squid Prince’ takes you on a guided tour of the local fish market, including the chance to watch the daily seafood auction up close! Miyako City is quite unique in that there are actually two auctions held at the fish market every day – one in the early, early morning and another in the afternoon. It is very rare to experience a seafood auction without having to get up at the crack of dawn!

After the auction, the ‘Squid Prince’ will share with you some of his expert knowledge of unique Japanese fishing methods and issues faced by the fishing industry in Japan, before the chance to try some of the tasty local marine products for yourself!
