Miso Kiritanpo Making Experience

Cook Akita's Signature Rice Dish in a Local's Home

Highlights

Kiritanpo is a traditional local cuisine found only in Akita, made from freshly cooked rice that is pounded, wrapped around a wooden skewer, and grilled, then glazed with sweet miso. In this hands-on experience, your guide first takes you past the rice paddies that supply the ingredients, offering a glimpse of Akita’s four seasons, before arriving at a local’s home in the countryside around Kakunodate — many of whom run farmstays (minshuku) and grow their own rice. There, you’ll make and enjoy kiritanpo together with the family. In the northern region of Akita, kiritanpo is traditionally served in kiritanpo nabe hot pots with local hinai chicken broth and vegetables. A warm, one-of-a-kind culinary encounter that can only be had in Akita. Please contact us for groups of more than 10 people.
