Dake Onsen Bar Hopping Tour(Fukushima)

Discover hidden gems and taste the night like a local

Highlights

Tour Introduction

Dake Onsen is a hot spring town with over 1,200 years of history, nestled at the foot of Mt. Adatara in Fukushima. By day, visitors enjoy the healing waters and mountain views, but by night, the streets reveal another charm: cozy bars, beloved izakaya, and hidden counters where locals gather.

This guided bar hopping tour takes you into the authentic nightlife of Dake Onsen – places that most visitors would never step into on their own.

Your evening begins at the ryokan Hanakanzashi, where you’ll sit at a quiet bar counter and savor local sake brewed with Mt. Adatara’s pure snowmelt, aged underground for decades.

Next, we head to Yorozuya, a friendly izakaya famous for its gyoza. The sizzling sound of dumplings on the grill, the chatter of locals, and the smell of homemade dishes create the lively backdrop of a true neighborhood tavern.

Finally, we slip into Senshintei, a small counter-only bar. Normally frequented only by locals, it’s a place where stories are exchanged over sake and shochu. With your guide by your side, you’ll feel welcomed into this hidden corner of the community.

More than just drinking – this tour is about connecting with people, sharing flavors, and experiencing the nightlife culture that defines Dake Onsen. By the end of the evening, you won’t just be a visitor. You’ll feel like part of the town.

Dake Onsen is a hot spring town with over 1,200 years of history, located at the foot of Mt. Adatara. For centuries, the hot springs here have been carefully protected by the yomori – “guardians of the hot spring.” Even today, the water is shared throughout the entire town, preserving a unique culture of communal distribution rarely found elsewhere in Japan.

By day, you can enjoy sweeping views of the mountains, while at night the town is wrapped in a tranquil atmosphere of rising steam. This area is part of Bandai-Asahi National Park and is a volcanic region. It is precisely because of this volcanic activity that the hot springs exist. At the same time, the abundant meltwater from Mt. Adatara’s snow, which takes decades to filter underground, brings blessings to the region.

During this tour, you’ll hear these stories from your guide while enjoying local sake brewed with this pure snowmelt water—an experience unique to Dake Onsen.

18:45

The second stop is Yorozuya, a popular local izakaya. Its signature dish is crispy, golden-brown gyoza, along with a variety of hearty regional specialties. Inside, the lively chatter and laughter of the locals fill the air, offering a glimpse into the everyday nightlife of Dake Onsen that visitors rarely get to experience.

Here you’ll find not only regular patrons, but also guests from nearby ryokan who drop by in their yukata after a soak in the hot spring. This unique atmosphere captures the true charm of an izakaya in a hot spring town.

19:30

The final stop of the evening is Senshintei, a tiny counter-only izakaya cherished by the local regulars for years. On your own, it might feel intimidating to step inside, but with your guide leading the way, you can enter with ease and confidence.

Take a seat at the warm wooden counter and order a glass of local sake or shochu. Before long, you’ll find yourself drawn into conversations with the people sitting beside you. Listening to local stories, exchanging laughter, and sharing drinks, you may suddenly realize that you feel like part of the Dake Onsen community yourself.

It’s this sense of intimacy and warmth, found in such a small and hidden space, that makes Senshintei truly unforgettable.

20:30

Congratulations! You are now a qualified izakaya master!
